What if every teacher used twitter?

I've been thinking lately about the fact that twitter, blogging, social media and Teachmeets are not really mainstream yet (blog), most teachers don't use them. Why not? Most teachers learnt to use email so why not Twitter? I also re-read a blog post by Dan Haesler, What if every teacher blogged? and saw a tweet by Matt Esterman about there being 200,000+ teachers on twitter, which is still a very small percentage of all teachers around the world.

Twitter and (more recently) blogging has been a revelation to me, it has inspired my
- learning
- professional development
- new ideas
and opened up an amazing network of teachers.
It had made me think and reflect on my teaching. it has refreshed and invigorated my passion for education and learning. So shouldn't every teacher have this opportunity?

What if every teacher used twitter? What would it look like?

Is it scalable? Would 60 000 NSW teachers (or millions around the world) be too many? How many teachers can you follow and interact with?

How would it effect
- learning?
- Professional Development?
- sharing of ideas?
- the classroom?

Would it pull down the boundaries between education sectors?

Would it change the power structures in schools?

How would it change education and learning?

What could we do that can't be done now?

It's nice to dream occasionally...

What do you think would happen if every teacher used twitter?
